Guatemala Antigua is a bright, elegant single-origin Guatemalan coffee from our Gran Riserva collection, grown in the celebrated Antigua Valley. Freshly roasted on demand in our Montréal facility using our signature TAG method, it offers natural notes of honey, a charming jasmine aroma, and a gentle, tart brightness that leads into a long, sweet finish. It is a refined, aromatic cup, at its best brewed as filter or drip.
Tasting Notes
Guatemala Antigua is prized for its elegance and its lively brightness. Subtle honey sweetness and a charming floral aroma of jasmine lead the cup, carried by a gently tart acidity and a long, sweet finish. Refined and aromatic, it is a coffee that rewards a careful filter brew. The profile described here is for our TAG roast.
Origin
Guatemala Antigua is grown on the slopes of the Antigua Valley, in soils among the richest volcanic earth in the world. The plantation is carefully shade-managed so the coffee trees receive just the right amount of sun, and the cherries are hand-picked from December to April, washed in a traditional mill with crystal-clear water, and sun-dried on patios until the beans take on their distinctive greenish-blue colour. Part of a regional cooperative, the estate has been led since 1988 by Ricardo Zelaya, the fourth generation of his family to tend this land.
Roast
TAG (Torrefazione Artigianale Granito) is our suggested roast for single-origins. Drawing on more than four decades of expertise in green-bean selection, roasting, and cupping, our TAG roast fully caramelises the beans' natural sugars to unlock their richest, most complex flavours. It is a careful, intuitive process, guided by the hand of our Master Roaster to bring out the fullest potential of each single-origin coffee.
Brewing
For espresso, use about 1 tbsp (8 g) of coffee per 1 oz (30 ml) of fresh water. For filter coffee, use 1 tbsp (8 g) per 8.5 oz (250 ml) of fresh water.
