India Monsoon Malabar is a bold, full-bodied single-origin Indian coffee from our Gran Riserva collection, named for the remarkable monsoon process that shapes it. Freshly roasted on demand in our Montréal facility using our signature TAG method, it is rich, intense, and remarkably smooth, with the deep body and low acidity that make monsooned coffee so distinctive. It is a truly unique cup, at its best brewed as filter or drip coffee.

Tasting Notes

Monsoon Malabar is prized for its bold, full body and its smooth, mellow character. The monsooning process rounds out the cup, giving it a rich intensity with very little acidity and a long, satisfying finish. Deep and distinctive, it is a coffee unlike any other – substantial enough to enjoy black or to anchor a milky cup.

Origin

India Monsoon Malabar comes from the Shevaroys hills of southern India, and takes its name from a process born of history. In the age of sail, coffee bound for Europe spent months at sea in warm, humid holds, arriving with its green beans turned pale gold and its flavour mellowed into something full-bodied and smooth. Today that transformation is recreated on purpose: after harvest, the beans are spread in open, monsoon-facing warehouses and left to the seasonal winds and moisture – the source of this coffee's signature depth and smoothness.

Roast

India Monsoon Malabar is roasted using our TAG method – Torrefazione Artigianale Granito, our artisanal single-origin roast. Drawing on more than four decades of expertise in green-bean selection, roasting, and cupping, the TAG roast fully caramelises the beans' natural sugars to unlock their richest, most complex flavours, guided by the hand of our Master Roaster. It is also offered in other roast levels – you can explore our roast options to find your preference.

Brewing

For filter or drip coffee, use about 1 tbsp (8 g) of coffee per 8.5 oz (250 ml) of fresh water.
