Urnex Dezcal Descaling Powder

Urnex Dezcal is a descaling powder that clears the limescale and mineral buildup that collects inside any machine that heats water. Urnex is a long-trusted name in cafés and espresso bars, and Dezcal brings that same descaler home in a single-use packet. Used regularly, it keeps your espresso machine, coffee maker or kettle flowing freely and heating properly.

What It Does

Hard water leaves mineral scale inside boilers, heating elements and water lines, and over time that scale slows water flow, throws off brew temperature and shortens a machine's life. Dezcal is formulated to dissolve that buildup from hot water tanks and the components around them. Beyond the boiler, it's useful on water faucets, spray heads and milk systems. It's food-safe and biodegradable when used as directed; because it's an active descaler, always rinse thoroughly before brewing again.

How to Use It

1. Dissolve the packet in ½ litre of water and pour it into the machine's water tank.
2. Turn the machine on, remove the portafilter, and run the pump until about two-thirds of the water has flowed through.
3. If buildup is heavy, open the steam valve to run some solution through the steam wand as well.
4. Let it sit for 15 minutes, then run the pump for 20 seconds.
5. Empty and rinse the tank thoroughly, refill with clean water, and run it through until the tank is empty to clear any residue.
6. Repeat periodically, or whenever you notice water flowing more slowly than usual.
