Costa Rica La Joya is a single-origin Costa Rican coffee from our Gran Riserva collection, grown high on the volcanic slopes of the Tarrazú region. Freshly roasted on demand in our Montréal facility using our signature TAG method, it delivers a beautifully balanced cup with gentle acidity, a smooth body, and sweet, nutty notes. It is a coffee that rewards slow, considered brewing – equally at home as a filter cup or an espresso.
Tasting Notes
La Joya is prized for its balance, holding body and acidity in easy harmony. Sweet, nutty notes lead – think toasted almond and a soft caramel sweetness – over a clean, medium body and a bright, refined finish. It is a versatile cup that stays expressive whether you brew it as filter coffee or pull it as espresso.
Origin
La Joya is grown on the slopes of the Irazú volcano, in Costa Rica's celebrated Tarrazú region, by a small cooperative of farmers who share a deep respect for their land. The mineral-rich volcanic soil and high altitude of Tarrazú, paired with traditional growing methods, are what give this coffee its clarity and its consistent, high-grade quality. The cooperative works carefully to minimise its ecological footprint at every stage of processing.
Roast
Costa Rica La Joya is roasted using our TAG method – Torrefazione Artigianale Granito, our artisanal single-origin roast. Drawing on more than four decades of expertise in green-bean selection, roasting, and cupping, the TAG roast fully caramelises the beans' natural sugars to unlock their richest, most complex flavours. It is a careful, intuitive process, guided by the hand of our Master Roaster to bring out the fullest potential of each single-origin coffee.
Brewing
For espresso, use about 1 tbsp (8 g) of coffee per 1 oz (30 ml) of fresh water. For filter coffee, use 1 tbsp (8 g) per 8.5 oz (250 ml) of fresh water.
