Espresso Décaf à l'eau is a certified organic, water-process decaffeinated espresso created for people who love a true espresso but want it without the caffeine. Rich, woody, and smoky, with dark chocolate notes, it delivers the body and depth of a full espresso – the kind of cup a discerning drinker reaches for in the evening, when the coffee matters but the caffeine doesn't. It is decaffeinated using the Mountain Water process, a chemical-free method that removes caffeine while protecting the bean's natural flavour.

Tasting Notes

Full-bodied and low in acidity, with a rich, woody character and a gentle smokiness. Dark chocolate notes carry through the finish. The profile holds up whether pulled as espresso or brewed as filter, making it a versatile decaf for any time of day.

Roast

This blend is roasted to a medium-dark colour for full body and low acidity. Decaffeinated beans behave differently in the roaster: because the process increases the bean's porosity, the exterior darkens faster than the interior. The result can look like a dark roast on the surface while the interior stays lighter – a characteristic of decaffeinated coffee, not an indication of a heavier roast.

Brewing

Balanced enough for both espresso and filter preparation.

  • Filter: 1 tbsp or 8 g of ground coffee per 8.5 oz (250 ml) of fresh water.
  • Espresso: 1 tbsp or 8 g of ground coffee per 1 oz (30 ml) of fresh water.

The Mountain Water Process

The Mountain Water process is a chemical-free, water-based method of removing caffeine from green coffee. It uses water and activated-charcoal filtration to draw out caffeine while leaving the bean's flavour compounds largely intact – no solvents, and byproducts that are natural and recyclable. It is a gentle approach to decaffeination, well-suited to preserving the character of a specialty coffee, which is why the cup retains the depth and richness you'd expect from a full-caffeine espresso.
