Yémen Moka Ismaili is a rare and remarkable single-origin coffee from our Gran Riserva collection, one of the most prized coffees in all of Yemen. Freshly roasted on demand in our Montréal facility using our signature TAG method, it is complex, poignant, and deeply fruity, with the dark, savoury notes – sage, tobacco, leather, dried fruit, cardamom, and wood – that connoisseurs seek out. Once you have tasted it, other coffees can seem a little pale by comparison.

Tasting Notes

This is a coffee of extraordinary depth and character. Poignant and complex, it layers dark, savoury notes of sage, tobacco, and leather with dried fruit, cardamom, and wood, all over a rich, fruity base. Its aroma is famously intense – a quality Yemeni growers call the "Yemen Syndrome" – and it only deepens once the beans are ground. This is a cup for the true enthusiast, to be savoured slowly.

Origin

Yémen Moka Ismaili is grown high in the Haraz mountains, at around 2,500 metres in Bani Ismail, where its ripe cherries are handpicked one by one. Long treasured by Yemeni coffee lovers and Ismaili aficionados, this is one of the country's most valuable coffees – and Yemen is where the coffee trade itself began. Dry-processed in the traditional way, on the cherry, it carries all the wild, concentrated character of its ancient origin.

Roast

Yémen Moka Ismaili is roasted using our TAG method – Torrefazione Artigianale Granito, our artisanal single-origin roast. Drawing on more than four decades of expertise in green-bean selection, roasting, and cupping, the TAG roast fully caramelises the beans' natural sugars to unlock their richest, most complex flavours. It is a careful, intuitive process, guided by the hand of our Master Roaster to bring out the fullest potential of this exceptional coffee.

Brewing

For filter coffee, use about 1 tbsp (8 g) of coffee per 8.5 oz (250 ml) of fresh water.
